Regenerative agriculture

At Go-Cat®, we are committed to providing quality pet food that supports a happy and healthy life for your pets. At the same time we are committed to caring for the soil of the farms we source from and the farmers that work them.

Therefore, we are proudly working with the farmers we source cereals from to support them technically and financially in their transition to Regenerative Agriculture practices.

Regenerative agriculture practices enable farmers to focus more closely on working  to protect and restore the soil, like crop rotation and planting trees and hedges.

Imagine a farm where every plant and tree works together to keep the soil healthy and full of life. That’s the idea behind Regenerative Agriculture — protecting the environment for generations to come.

Regenerative agriculture practices
helps farmers work more
 closely with nature

Regenerative Agriculture is about farming more closely in harmony with nature to protect and restore soils health. Farmers use practices like planting trees and hedges  and growing cover crops to prevent soil erosion and boost soil quality and fertility.

What does this look like?
Cover crops act like a natural shield, protecting soil from wind and water. When they break down, they become organic matter — helping the soil hold water like a sponge.

Planting trees alongside crops. Tree roots keep soil in place and prevent erosion, while trees create habitats for wildlife and support biodiversity, bringing useful species back to farms.

Why does it matter? These practices offer multiple benefits:

More fertile soil for future harvests
Go-cat
Replenish nutrients in the soils
Go-cat
Less need for chemical fertilizers

Better water retention
in the soil

More biodiversity to support thriving ecosystems

And we are not doing it alone!

As part of LENs “Landscape Enterprise Networks” we are working  in Yorkshire and the East of England, to support farmers as they transition to more Regenerative Agricultural practices.

LENs (Landscape Enterprise Networks) is a framework bringing together farmers, land managers and other organizations within local communities, to work on protecting and restoring the landscape. Below are the facts & figures of farmers Purina has supported in the implementation of Regenerative Agriculture practices through LENS in 2024:

In the UK, PURINA has financially supported 105 farmers (vs. 65 in 2023) across 17,000 hectares farmland.

Through LENS we have also supported initiatives In Italy, Hungary and Poland.
