Say Hi to ScallyWag
Australian Shepherd Dog & Pyrenean Mountain Dog, 3 years old
She came from Dogma Animal Reacue .
My favourite thing about ScallyWag is...
Her lip gets caught on her tooth sometimes which gives her a great “raised lip” disapproving face. Also she gets in what we call “Ratbag mode” where she goes a bit silly and sticks her bum in the air and wants a scratch.
The biggest challenge with ScallyWag is...
She’s got lots of energy and is wary around new people. She needs a lot of walking but we have to be careful when meeting people on the walks. She is never vicious, but she barks a lot. She’s never hurt a person nor ever been in a fight with a dog. Although she knows how to look “don’t mess with me”.
The most surprising thing about owning a Australian Shepherd Dog & Pyrenean Mountain Dog is...
She’s actually exceptionally sweet and loyal. We can let her off leash and unlike previous dog breeds I’ve had, we know she is always around her humans. She’s also been amazing with our baby, who is soon to be a 3 year old toddler. Scally is only 7 months older than our daughter and they have grown up together.
What I wish I’d known about Australian Shepherd Dogs & Pyrenean Mountain Dogs is...
We got her in America and socialized her in dog parks where all the dogs run free. In hindsight, this may not have been the best way to socialize her as pack dynamics and hierarchy were really entrenched, and since there are no dog parks in the UK, it’s been a bit more difficult for her to adjust. She acts like she’s in a dog park.
