Meet Chip
Border Collie, 4 years old
My favourite thing about Chip is...
He has a little way of being a bit cheeky. He will try and nip my leg when he wants to walk the other way.
The biggest challenge with Chip is...
Cats. He wants to chase them and although we had some trainings early on, covid stopped the intense training and he is still fearful of cars going past. He lunges at them , spins and barks.
The most surprising thing about owning a Border Collie is...
Their mood, their instinct and they are so clever. They remember everything - good and bad! They are hot wired to herd - sheep, children, wheelie bins and everything that moves. Surprising cuddly, and very loyal.
What I wish I’d known about Border Collies is...
I bought and read a lot of books before getting this breed of dog. I also did a few online courses. I lined up trainers, talked to owners and visited my puppy to be from 3 weeks old. When he was 9 months old we got covid and things changed. I used online trainers, and built agility equipment for our garden. I wish I had known more so I could have trained him better myself.
Did you know?
Border Collies are known for their intense stare, allowing them to control a flock with a simple glance.
