Meet Meru
Border Collie, 10 years old
My favourite thing about Meru is...
Her love of life, people and other dogs and balls and walks and water and digging and learning and just her sheer joy!
The biggest challenge with Meru is...
Keeping her brain occupied, she loves a challenge!
The most surprising thing about owning a Border Collie is...
I've lived with Border Collies a lot of my life, but every one is unique with its own specific passions, obsessions and fears. While they are bred as working dogs and they love to work, they do not need non-stop exercise, in fact they can be real layabouts in the house, needing time to 'recharge their batteries' too.
What I wish I’d known about Border Collies is...
The specific breed disorders they are prone to, such as Collie Eye Anomaly and other eye problems, Hip dysplasia, Epilepsy, etc. I did not know about these and was lucky with my first few dogs... now that I know I am much better equipped to choose a healthy dog.
Did you know?
American psychologist Dr. Stanley Coren classified the Border Collie as the most intelligent breed of dog, ranking first out of 133 breeds.
