Say Hello to Monty
Border Collie, 2 years old
My favourite thing about Monty is...
He always wants to please and be with you when you are doing little jobs around the house. He is so clever and loves enrichment puzzles . He can usually figure it out quite quickly and remembers for next time how to do it . Hiding his kibble in socks around the garden or house Is his favourite game He sticks the end of his tongue out when he’s asleep !
The biggest challenge with Monty is...
Recall , we gave him a ball since he was a puppy but have since found out that’s what’s keeping him away and not coming all the way back to us . Tuggy toys are the way forward and his recall is getting better everyday
The most surprising thing about owning a Border Collie is...
They do not need as much exercise as you think and balance this with more mental simulation .
What I wish I’d known about Border Collies is...
Getting the foundations right from the start , mat work , loose lead walking , recall and impulse control for a more relaxed and calm collie . Not to over stimulate them with tennis balls as this can cause high amounts of dopamine and make your collie want to keep on going and not relax and calm down causing unwanted behaviours .
