Greetings from Nugget
Border Collie, 6 years old
My favourite thing about Nugget is...
The love he shows to me when returning home after a day “at work” with his dad. He is always so excited to see me. Also, the cuddles when we go to bed. His eagerness to please is a delight to see and he is always so pleased with himself when he gets things right and earns praise from us.
The biggest challenge with Nugget is...
He is very wilful and knows his own mind. Training is an ongoing thing with him. Reiteration is key with Nugget. He doesn’t mean to be naughty, he just gets over enthusiastic sometimes and forgets his training, but a sharp “No” usually pulls him up and brings him to his senses. He needs to be entertained constantly which is normal with a dog of his breed. You just need patience and love.
The most surprising thing about owning a Border Collie is...
The loyalty a Border Collie shows to its family is beyond belief. They will follow you anywhere and remain by your side no matter what. Their intelligence is second to none.
What I wish I’d known about Border Collies is...
They are very loyal, but you do need to show them who is boss right from day one. They want to be the “alpha” in the pack, but you must show them that it is you.
