Greetings from Pip
Border Collie, 5 years old
My favourite thing about Pip is...
She is highly intelligent and loves to work with our sheep on our farm. She also loves long walks - we walk about 10 miles every day. She is very good in the house and is great with our 4 cats.
The biggest challenge with Pip is...
Because she is so keen to work, being a working breed, she would be frustrated if she wasn't being stimulated all the time.
The most surprising thing about owning a Border Collie is...
She is very good at reading my moods and knows if anyone isn't feeling happy. She knows when we're talking about her and as she is very vocal, she joins in the conversation!
What I wish I’d known about Border Collies is...
They are really not suited to live in the town or suburbs. They are working farm dogs. They need long walks every day and to be mentally stimulated or they would be destructive. They wouldn't suit a family home where the kids are at school and the parents are out working all day. I farm and am semi-retired so I have plenty of time to devote to her. If we didn't have sheep I would have got a different breed.
Did you know?
American psychologist Dr. Stanley Coren classified the Border Collie as the most intelligent breed of dog, ranking first out of 133 breeds.
