Meet Digger
Border Terrier & Jack Russell Terrier, 9 years old
My favourite thing about Digger is...
Her capacity for enjoying every day and how she has brought so much enjoyment to so many of those she meets, and yet she is still all terrier, very reactive to all small furries but also very biddable. One day a squirrel poked its head in the window where we were reading with a group of children. She went to catch it but was able to stop on command and settle back to hearing the readers -amazing!
The biggest challenge with Digger is...
Having enough of the right work for her. She can get bored during the school holidays so we have found visiting the local library so the children can come to read to her has gone down very well. Not only do the children enjoy it but we have also boosted the use of the library.
The most surprising thing about owning a Border Terrier & Jack Russell Terrier is...
You can’t be sure how much is in the mix - she has pushed me further with dog training than I thought I could do. She is a Reading Dog in the school I work in after she learnt her reading trick. The children love to read to her and have learnt important lessons about how to respect dogs. She is all terrier, very able hunter of all little furries. In spite of this she is also incredibly obedient.
What I wish I’d known about Border Terriers & Jack Russell Terriers is...
How to predict the outcome with this mix - she’s incredibly intelligent, Jack Russell hunter traits plenty but her litter sister is very different, border traits. Her intelligence means she needs good mental challenges to minimise
