Say Hi to Pepe
Chihuahua (Smooth Coat), 2 years old
My favourite thing about Pepe is...
He is like my doggie doppleganger. We both like to sleep-in on the weekends. We’re up for a walk, but it’s not essential. We’re sociable and friendly, but happy with our own space. Pepe is incredible. He continues to surprise me and make me laugh. He travels well (we’ve been camping in our van and he’ll hop on the train and tube to work with me). Plus he fits in a bag so you can take him anywhere!
The biggest challenge with Pepe is...
Because he’s so little, his bladder is small. But as long as he’s given toilet breaks, he’s absolutely fine. Also because of his size, he can be a little timid with big excitable dogs, but practice in the park builds his confidence.
The most surprising thing about owning a Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) is...
Most people think of them as yappy and aggressive. I don’t know if I’ve just been lucky, good breeding or if I haven’t let him develop little dog syndrome. But he is the most placid, quiet and patient dog I’ve ever owned. With the right training no dog needs to be a handful. So don’t let you preconceptions put you off.
What I wish I’d known about Chihuahuas (Smooth Coat) is...
Not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination, but they love to be warm. You will need plenty of blankets for snuggling.
Did you know?
Chihuahuas shiver a lot, but that doesn’t always mean they’re cold, they also do it when they’re excited or scared too!
