Greetings from Derby (Prince)

Cocker Spaniel (English), 6 Months old

🌳 Countryside dog
🍼 Lives with children

My favourite thing about Derby (Prince) is...

He is the best footballer and retriever. He is a great ball catcher, and always fetches the ball back even from the neighbour's garden and drops it at my feet. He loves cuddles in bed and kisses. He also loves our old Birman cat, he tries to play ball with Cocoa but just got a few smacks in return. He is very good with human guests. He will 'sit' and offer his paw to you if you say 'hello' to him.

The biggest challenge with Derby (Prince) is...

Potty training. He leaks when excited. He also loves chewing shoes and slippers.

The most surprising thing about owning a Cocker Spaniel (English) is...

It is a very loyal retriever. Always finds and fetches the ball back without fail and drops it at our feet. He is also an excellent catcher, often catching the ball at midair. Self-taught, his talents are natural as cocker spaniels are gun dogs used for retrieving birds shot down. (He actually counts the number of (tennis) balls he has the way a mother hen would count her eggs and hides them).

What I wish I’d known about Cocker Spaniels (English) is...

That they have a lot of energy and needs a lot of exercise and running around. Luckily we have a grass garden where he can play ball in. But playing ball 24/7 - even at midgnight...?!

Did you know?

They make terrible guard dogs as they’re much too friendly.
