Get introduced to Indie
Cocker Spaniel (English), 2 years old
My favourite thing about Indie is...
She is so much fun and has such a funny little personality, she is always making us laugh. She is always the first to say hi to people and give kisses, she loves giving and being loved. She loves a ball and will happily play fetch as long as you want to, and she does some pretty epic athletic manoeuvres! She was also so easy to train the basics (sit, stay, leave, bed etc.).
The biggest challenge with Indie is...
Her prey drive is extremely high and we've had to work really hard as she's got older on managing her want to chase squirrels. When she gets a scent it can be difficult to get her to disengage.
The most surprising thing about owning a Cocker Spaniel (English) is...
How it seems to take them longer to mature than other dogs I have been around. I now have a few cocker spaniels in my life and they seem to have a lot more of their puppy nature for longer than other breeds when it comes to energy and excitement.
What I wish I’d known about Cocker Spaniels (English) is...
That their prey drive can be quite difficult to manage. It makes her recall at times unreliable, which means walks can be quite hands on at times.
Did you know?
Cocker Spaniels' paw pads inspired the sole for the first ever boat shoes when Paul Sperry witnessed his dog running on ice without a problem.
