Say Hi to Harvey

Lurcher, 3 years old

🏠 Suburbs dog
🍷 Lives with adults only

My favourite thing about Harvey is...

His character. He is the friendliest dog you could ever hope to meet, he is so good natured with every dog and person he meets. Except cats. He really doesn’t like cats.

The biggest challenge with Harvey is...

His prey drive. As a lurcher he has a high prey drive which has to be taken into consideration when taking him for a walk. If he sees a squirrel, rabbit or deer he will chase it. Luckily he’s never actually caught anything, but it does mean I have to consider where I can take him for off lead exercise.

The most surprising thing about owning a Lurcher is...

Zoomies! They need to let off steam and will tear round the house and garden like crazy things! When I let Harvey off the lead he just loves to run. He will run until he’s had enough, and then he will just come to a stop.

What I wish I’d known about Lurchers is...

I wish I had known more about how lurchers act when they hit puberty. Harvey was great at puppy classes, and until he was about 8 months old. Then overnight all his training just - disappeared! He had no recall, I couldn’t trust him off the lead, and I was wondering if I would have to always walk him on lead. Then he just as suddenly changed again at about 22 months old. He is now a delight.
