Let's say hello to Blaze

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, 5 years old

🏠 Suburbs dog
🍼 Lives with children

My favourite thing about Blaze is...

He loves to hide in the forest and I’ve to try and find him and throw his ball to him 🎾 he loves an adventure with my kids and he’s willing to try anything. His favourite is paddleboarding and dock diving.

The biggest challenge with Blaze is...

His recall goes to pot if he spots another dogs ball! If you tell him he’s not swimming…. He’ll find a swamp and then he’ll have to go swimming to get washed! He’s not a cuddly dog, so we have to settle for a chin rest if he’s wanting something. He’s very stubborn.

The most surprising thing about owning a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is...

They have an ear-piercing scream when they get excited.

What I wish I’d known about Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers is...

Very headstrong.

Did you know?

The term ‘toll’ means ‘to entice’ and this is where the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever gets their name – their job is to lure in ducks with their waving white tipped tail, so that hunters can get their shot. Then fulfilling the second part of their name, the Toller finds and retrieves the shot birds to the hunter.
