Get to know Blue
Whippet, 8 years old
My favourite thing about Blue is...
He has a very gentle personality, loves being outdoors, loves cats (he even licks them dry when they come home wet through) and adores running alongside me when I am biking. He has learnt where to go and what to avoid doing. He is well known at bike races where he sits quietly at the end of a race stage for long periods without making a fuss.
The biggest challenge with Blue is...
Getting him to go home after a run. His record for end of run to getting in car is 5 hrs 40 mins. He knows every trick to avoid going home. Luckily at the moment we have negotiated a deal (which involves saving a sausage from my butty).
The most surprising thing about owning a Whippet is...
Whippets are well known for speed, but mine will easily run 12Km before I have to slow down and let him catch up.
What I wish I’d known about Whippets is...
They can be stubborn. Running is their top priority, not food, not rest, not warmth. Recall can be a nightmare.
Did you know?
While similar to the Greyhound (the fastest dog on earth), the Whippet, being lighter built, has got better acceleration, and over very short distances will be able to beat them.
