Say Hi to Kenzo

Whippet, 2 years old

🏠 Suburbs dog
🍷 Lives with adults only

My favourite thing about Kenzo is...

His very expressive ears. He always brings in a blanket to put on the sofa when snuggling up to me to watch TV. He loves The Dog House on 4. Kenzo is brilliant at football. He is so gentle with other dogs, especially puppies. He loves to chase and to be chased. He is loyal to his doggie friends, especially Albie, a cocker spaniel, and Lenny and Percy, his best mate bros.

The biggest challenge with Kenzo is...

Definitely his prey instinct. He can spot a squirrel from a very long distance. If he’s off the lead, he’s away. Deer in the woods are another challenge. For everyone’s safety, I keep him on the lead near wildlife and livestock. He’s also not keen on travelling by car (but he’s very eco-friendly and loves the train). There is always some howling!

The most surprising thing about owning a Whippet is...

That they are not all timid. Kenzo is confident and inquisitive and always has been. That image of a quivering whippet is far from true. Whippets are very different from greyhounds in that whippets have boundless energy. They like a long sleep but are on the go whenever they are awake. And these slim beasts adore food. They have huge appetites.

What I wish I’d known about Whippets is...

Just how much energy they have, and they can be temperamental divas. Kenzo can flounce out of a room and sulk for hours! His attention bark when he’s being ignored is ear piercing. Whippets are much more vocal than I expected, so be careful if you have neighbours who don’t like dogs!

Did you know?

This breed has very little body fat, so they’ll need to have a good dog coat for the winter.
