Get to know Loki
German Shepherd Dog, 3 years old
My favourite thing about Loki is...
Loki has all the qualities of humans and none of the vices. He is fun, loyal, very protective, loves cuddles and never leaves my side.
The biggest challenge with Loki is...
As Loki is very protective he often perceives threats when there is not any, I have a very small social circle so this doesn't affect me that much. However I couldn't have random visitors as he really does not like people near me, if for eg we were getting work done on the house my son would have to stay with him in a separate room. He is very much my shadow.
The most surprising thing about owning a German Shepherd Dog is...
How other people exist without them.
What I wish I’d known about German Shepherd Dogs is...
My advice to anyone considering this breed would be to first contact somewhere such as the German shepherd rescue first to enable them to research the breed. I have been around Shepard's for most of my life but unfortunately many people get them and can't cope with them and give them the time that they need and sadly they often end up in rescue centres.
Did you know?
Long before Lassie, the first canine film star was a German Shepherd Dog known as Rin Tin Tin who was rescued as a puppy in 1918 from a World War I battlefield by Lee Duncan, an American soldier. He made 26 films, had his own radio show and even his own private chef!
