Bonjour from Nanook
German Shepherd Dog, 1 Year old
My favourite thing about Nanook is...
He is so patient and loving. If I’m having a bad day and struggling to get him out he never whines or exhibits any destructive behaviours. He’s my best friend. Since falling pregnant he’s been even more attentive and protective of me. Everyone we meet falls in love with him and he’s so good with kids, never jumps up, is really calm and docile and easy to train.
The biggest challenge with Nanook is...
He sheds everywhere (he’s white and longhaired so not great for my carpets) and is absolutely huge!
The most surprising thing about owning a German Shepherd Dog is...
How easygoing they are - provided you give them the right amount of attention and form a strong bond with them they’re just happy to be with you, whatever you’re doing that day.
What I wish I’d known about German Shepherd Dogs is...
How much they shed!
Did you know?
German Shepherd Dogs have had many jobs, one of the least well known however was as guide dogs for the blind, and the GSD was preferred as their height made them very suitable for blinded ex-military men, who would have found the Labradors and Golden Retrievers (and their mixes) too short! They are still used today for taller people but the amount of hair they shed makes them less popular.
