Get to know Lucia

Japanese Akita, 7 years old

🌳 Countryside dog
🍷 Lives with adults only

My favourite thing about Lucia is...

The way she gets overly excited in the morning when we come down stairs. Her tail wags non stop and she does the most joyful bear growls.

The biggest challenge with Lucia is...

Her pulling on the lead and her instinct to hunt as the akita is a born hunter.

The most surprising thing about owning a Japanese Akita is...

How loyal and protective they are. They are a breed that loves to keep family members safe and would protect them with it's life.

What I wish I’d known about Japanese Akitas is...

There a very stubborn breed and need proper training from a young puppy as they need socialising and a firm hand as they will push there limits.

Did you know?

The most famous Japanese Akita was Hachi, the loyal companion of a Tokyo professor Eizaburo Ueno. Each day Hachi would accompany his master to the train station and would also be waiting for him when he got back from work. On 25th May 1925, Professor Ueno died in his office but for the next nine years and until his own death, Hachi made the lonely journey back and forward to the station waiting for his master who never came. There is a statue at the station in his memory.
