My favourite thing about Maverick is...
Maverick is unusual and when we are out and about someone will always complement him on either his colour or behaviour. Maverick is a silver Labrador. 100% lab although some think he is part Weimaraner because his colour is extra special due to the dilute gene, which turns his chocolate fur into a pale silvery grey. He is super intelligent and extremely loving
The biggest challenge with Maverick is...
Keeping him entertained 24-7! He loves being outside… unless it’s raining and then he is definitely a fair weather dog and if we do get him out he has to wear a coat. Due to the dilute gene his coat isn’t as thick. He is exercised 3 times a day for around 45 minutes at a time
The most surprising thing about owning a Labrador Retriever is...
How much their coat sheds was the biggest surprise! I’m constantly brushing Maverick and hoovering. Very easy to train and Maverick can understand many single word commands, from the basics like sit, down and fetch to more complex words like identifying and retrieving different toys from his basket. He loves a challenge and will even attempt to have a conversation with you.
What I wish I’d known about Labrador Retrievers is...
We did a lot of research before deciding on the breed we wanted so there weren’t many surprises but the worst and hardest time we had was the first three months. Maverick was a land shark and it was constant but you need to enroll in a good puppy training school, keep consistent in your training and just know that this phase does pass
