Get to know Otto
Labrador Retriever, 2 years old
My favourite thing about Otto is...
He is a big softie who is addicted to attention! He is a cheerful, friendly boy who is always happy and whose tail is constantly wagging. He loves walks and being out and about, especially if he is in the woods, beach or near a river
The biggest challenge with Otto is...
Labradors can be tiring as puppies and he took a lot of training when he was a teenager, working hard on his recall. He is a strong boy and can be strong on the lead. He also likes to steal our son’s toys which tends not to go down very well.
The most surprising thing about owning a Labrador Retriever is...
How much they shed! I had expected him to be similar to a spaniel but the hair shedding is quite heavy, especially in the spring and autumn.
What I wish I’d known about Labrador Retrievers is...
What lovely, cheerful, affectionate characters they are - I would have got one sooner if I had known. They can be hard work as puppies, but they do calm down after 18 months - two years and they do manage to charm their way out of trouble (a lot).
