Say Hello to Abbie

Rottweiler, 8 years old

🌳 Countryside dog
🍼 Lives with children

My favourite thing about Abbie is...

She is the most loving dog, she adores people, especially children. She is always at my feet and if you get down to cuddle her she always wags a greeting. When I’m poorly she comes up on the settee to me and let’s me lay on her as we both fall asleep. I would never have known a Rottweiler could show so much love but know that she protects you always. And she steals my socks. Every morning…

The biggest challenge with Abbie is...

At one year old she turned into the Tasmanian devil and destroyed a rug! But it was short lived adolescence thankfully! The biggest problem we had was two years ago and she had two cruciate ligament operations in 6 months. It was awful seeing her struggling with walking and in pain but she came through and is like a new dog!

The most surprising thing about owning a Rottweiler is...

Her intelligence! They are always portrayed as being dumb, but she picks up commands and habits so quickly and easily. She was the perfect dog to train.

What I wish I’d known about Rottweilers is...

I wish I knew how loving they were. I would have had them all my life.

Did you know?

While often the subject of bad press, Rottweilers can make fabulous working dogs and can excel in a variety of jobs. For example, Gunner, a search and rescue Rottweiler received the AKC Hero Dog Award for his lifesaving work at the World Trade Centre disaster in New York.
