Say Hi to Buddy
Siberian Husky & Staffordshire Bull Terrier, 7 years old
My favourite thing about Buddy is...
He talks to us like a petulant teenager, like he’s telling us off or he’s excited about something. He loves playing with empty plastic bottles because of the noise they make. He still thinks he’s a puppy and sits on my knee for cuddles, he loves cuddles. He’s very inquisitive and he loves playing. He loves sharing a bag of snacks with us too (we don’t give him much) He is a bundle of love.
The biggest challenge with Buddy is...
As he is a staff/husky cross he is a bundle of energy. He has the strength of a staffy and the stamina of a husky. It can be a struggle with visitors because he just wants to play with them all. His excitement overtakes his obedience. It’s important to train when they are young because you will need to be firm with them in order for them to behave around people but you won’t need to be harsh.
The most surprising thing about owning a Siberian Husky & Staffordshire Bull Terrier is...
Their fur although short molts everywhere. We find hair in everything. Also people cross the road to avoid going near him because he looks like a big staffy. He is a beautiful gentle dog but people are afraid and I find that sad and very surprising. Also he loves other animals. We could never feed the snakes in front of him because it made him sad seeing us feed an animal to another animal.
What I wish I’d known about Siberian Huskys & Staffordshire Bull Terriers is...
I don’t think there’s anything I wish I’d know other than that this breed is so gentle and if treated right they will treat you right. I would never leave him with a child but I wouldn’t with any dog. Children don’t always understand boundaries and the most loving gentle dog can turn if pushed enough.
