Meet Quigley

Welsh Terrier, 5 years old

🌆 City dog
🍷 Lives with adults only

My favourite thing about Quigley is...

Quigley is a very loving dog who likes to sit on my knee. He likes his walks and is happy wherever they are. He is great on public transport, hopping happily on and off buses, trams and trains - he is welcomed by the gate staff at our local station and he loves the attention. If he wants something he indicates this by staring at me - alas I then have to guess what he is trying to tell me.

The biggest challenge with Quigley is...

Quigley has some of the traditional terrier characteristics. He loves the sound of his own voice and has a loud bark. He will bark at some other dogs and foxes but he particularly dislikes supermarket delivery vans - not sure why.

The most surprising thing about owning a Welsh Terrier is...

Quigley is my second Welshie and my first was very different, more reserved but he liked dogs and almost never barked. So a surprising thing would be how individual they are. One thing mine have both had in common is their indifference to food which makes them harder to train. Though I have friends with very greedy Welshies.

What I wish I’d known about Welsh Terriers is...

How fantastic they are - I would have got one sooner. Seriously though they are more interested in pleasing themselves than their owner and are not ideal for owners who see their teddy bear looks and are not ready for a terrier in their lives.

Did you know?

The Welsh Terrier has been popular with politicians; former Chancellor of the Exchequer Phillip Hammond owned Rex during his time at No.11 Downing St, and Charlie the Welsh Terrier lived somewhat more lavishly in the White House, during John F. Kennedys term as President of the USA.
