My cat loves the gravy, leaves the chunks.

He is only 6 years old, has fine teeth, but only likes the Purina gravy, licks it all up, chews on a couple of chunks, then paws and scratches all round the bowl, as if he wants to cover it up.
What's going on here? Any ideas....?
