Say Hello to Carter
Chow Chow, 3 years old
My favourite thing about Carter is...
What I love about Carter the most is how soft and loving he is. He knows when I'm sad and will always come sit with me to cheer me up. He has completely changed my life and helped me open my heart up to love. He has been the best decision I have ever made and I wouldn't change a thing about him.
The biggest challenge with Carter is...
My biggest challenge with Carter was finding a solution to his skin problems. We had to go to the vets several times for different treatments and allergy tests but once we found a solution this hasn't been an issue since. Carter also can be a little stubborn at times. He will listen to commands like sit, lay down, paw but doesn't have the best recall if you let him off the lead on the park so I just keep him on a long lead now.
The most surprising thing about owning a Chow Chow is...
He is very independent which means you can carry on with your life as usual and not worrying about leaving them alone for a longer period of time. They only require one short walk a day to stretch their legs and you don't have to worry about having friends over as he doesn't jump up people. Carter is very warm and soft around all humans.
What I wish I’d known about Chow Chows is...
They are prone to getting skin issues like hot spots which mainly comes around in summer. Carter now lives on apoquel which has really helped with his problems and he now lives a healthy, happy life. Chowchow's do malt alot also but nothing a hoover can't sort.
Did you know?
The Chow Chow has been a very important part of Chinese cultural history. One 8th century Emperor is reported to have kept a kennel of 5,000 Chow Chows looked after by 10,000 huntsmen.
