Let's say Bonjour to Hero
English Springer Spaniel, 6 years old
My favourite thing about Hero is...
Her sweet nature and eagerness to please; she learns new things at the drop of a hat and has the most amazing ability to sniff out her toys and ball when we throw them for her on walks, she is also very clever when chasing squirrels and has been known to use trees as cover as she races through the park after a small fluffy squirrel - a few have only just made it up a tree as she bounds into view!
The biggest challenge with Hero is...
Keeping her from barking loudly whenever anyone dares knock on the front door; she is very protective of her home.
The most surprising thing about owning a English Springer Spaniel is...
Their recovery rate; we can take them out for a two hour hike somewhere like Dovedale and they will run, swim and climb without stopping, after a stop for a cup of tea and a bowl of water for our dogs they will be immediately ready for the two hour hike back, then it is a long drive home and I’m sure after a sleep in the car they’d be ready for an evening walk! Their stamina is fantastic.
What I wish I’d known about English Springer Spaniels is...
I had never had a dog before and I wish I’d known how huge a role they play in family life, I am totally besotted with our dogs and I think English Springer Spaniels make amazing pets, playmates and friends. They are so loyal and loving and I completely underestimated how much they would mean to me.
Did you know?
Although originating from the ‘Land Spaniels’ Springer Spaniels are known for their love of water, and love a good swim or just a splash in a puddle or even their own water bowl.
