Purina cat food is built on a nutritional philosophy that puts science first. We believe every pet deserves excellent nutrition to help them live better, longer lives. Drawing on more than 130 years of expertise in pet nutrition, physiology and behaviour, Purina formulates cat food by focusing on nutrients and how they work together to support your pet’s overall health, not simply on an ingredient-by-ingredient basis. With more than a third of all cats in the UK regularly eating and enjoying Felix, the quality and safety of our products is our number one priority. We carry out 300 tests every day on the raw materials and packaging materials that enter our factories. A further 1,100 checks a day are carried out across the production process and finished products to ensure our strict quality and safety criteria are met. This is why you can be confident that Felix foods are completely safe for cats to eat. If you are worried by online comments about Felix, get the facts on these misleading claims and the actions we take to support cat owners.
Is cat food cooked?
Yes, wet cat food is cooked! To make the delicious taste that your cats love, the carefully selected ingredients are blended with cooked meat and then mixed in with jelly or gravy. Of course, this could also be blended into a delicious cat food pâté.
Is cat food halal?
Purina cat food is not certified as Halal. This categorisation is applied mainly to human foods.
Should cat food and water be together?
It’s a good idea to keep water and food separately. Your cat might not like the smell of their food whilst they’re drinking water and they also won’t like anything in their water (like bits of wet food or dust).
Should cat food be refrigerated?
Open packets or cans of cat food can be kept in the fridge for up to 2 days as this helps keep them fresh. Unopened cans and packets of cat food, however, can be kept at room temperature as the seals ensure that the food stays fresh.
Can cat food go off?
Yes, cat food can go off. It’s important to check the expiry date that is printed on the packets of dry and wet cat food. Once a packet is opened, store the wet cat food in the fridge for up to 2 days.
How much food should I feed my cat?
The amount of food your cat needs depends on their age, weight, and activity level. If your cat is prone to weight gain and gets very little activity, for example, consider a food labelled for weight management. Always refer to the feeding guidelines on the packaging and consult your veterinarian for personalised advice.
How many times a day should I feed my cat?
Most adult cats do well with two meals per day, while kittens may require more frequent feeding with four to six smaller meals a day. If you feed your cat free-choice by leaving dry food out for nibbling, monitor your cat’s body condition to help ensure they do not become overweight. Consult your veterinarian to determine the best feeding schedule for your cat’s specific needs.
How does nutrition impact a cat’s overall health?
Nutrition supports a cat's key body systems, not just energy needs. A complete and balanced diet helps cats maintain skin and coat health, supports digestive function, and contributes to brain and eye health. That’s why Purina cat foods are formulated with the essential nutrients cats need at every life stage.
