Say Hello to Hugo (and Huxley!)

Golden Retriever, 9 years old

🌳 Countryside dog
🍼 Lives with children

My favourite thing about Hugo (and Huxley!) is...

What I love most about Hugo is his loyalty and smile, he's always been a one person dog and whilst he lets other people in, he really has to bond for them to be special. What I love most about Hux is he is the quirkiest dog and is always doing something new, recently found out that he loves to bounce!

The biggest challenge with Hugo (and Huxley!) is...

The biggest challenge with Hugo is he won't share food and thinks all food on the floor belongs to him. The biggest challenge with Huxley is that he won't share cuddles and barks if other dogs get them first.

The most surprising thing about owning a Golden Retriever is...

The most surprising thing about owning a golden is that they retrieve very little! the most surprising thing about this breed is their playfulness, even at 9 Hugo always wants to play with Huxley or asks me to throw the ball. They are capable of being calm but always ready for adventure.

What I wish I’d known about Golden Retrievers is...

What I wish I’d known about this breed is how much they shed, make sure you have a really good hoover and lint roller. I wish I knew how needy they were, they want to spend a lot of time with you so make sure you have lots of time for them. I knew they would be foodies but not to the extent that they are obsessed, make sure you teach them eat slowly so they don’t throw up, that they don’t resource guard and cause issues with other dogs and that you keep counters clear as they’ll try and hoover anything off!

Did you know?

Golden Retrievers are said to have extremely soft mouths, so soft in fact that they can carry a raw egg in their mouth without cracking the shell.
